PART TWO
A TYPICA VIDEO TAPE-BASED CCTV SYSTEM
First let explain what a CCTV is. CCTV is a versatile surveillance system that limits the reception of an image to those receivers or monitors which are directly linked to the origination point by coaxial cable, micro wave link e.t.c.
A typical video tape-based cctv system composes of the following namely; lenses, cameras, transmission system, switching/control system, monitors and recording system.
The lens is to see the view for the camera; the camera converts the view into electrical signals for the transmission system to transmit to the control room. The control room contains the switching system which is responsible for the distribution of the electrical signals. Numbers of connected monitors receives the electrical signals via transmission system and in turn convert it to optics. In a traditional analog CCTV, other devices are employed depending on what function you require. Devices such as video monitor detection, frame store, Time date generator, video amplifier, video distributor amplifier, cash scan and Audio recording.
PART THREE
PC-BASED DIGITAL SURVAILLANCE SYSTEM
In making a remote surveillance system from a personal computer, a real Time CCTV monitoring package is required. A typical real time cctv monitoring package consist of NOVEX2000 (N2k), Harmony vision Alert, Real time (HVART) and video save system.
N2k is a PCI card and comes with complete stay alone based software package that enables digital video recording on local hard disks as well as high speed digital transmission of video images and Alarms to remote computers over internet and via a network (LAN/WAN) and ISDN/Cable. It connects four cameras and four Alarms as the case may be. It can accommodate up to sixteen cameras and more Alarm inputs by installing up to four N2k cards per PC. N2k’s Alarm inputs can be used to connect a positive infra red (PIR) or other detectors. The device can transmit up to thirty frames per second provided the stream of data is highly compressed. This enables remote surveillance and control anywhere in the world.
OPERATIONAL MODE: the cameras are connected to the device (N2k) which communicates with the internet host via a secure, high-speed connection. With this, the streaming video is enabled and recorded digitally through the host.
The external sensor or in built motion detection system detects an intruder in a protected area and set the Alarm on, the Alarm triggers the recording of the event with date and time stamp. The recording starts sixty seconds before the event (depending on the time pre-set for the pre-Alarm and post-Alarm). This provides full coverage of what happened before, during and after the Alarm. The pre-Alarm takes care of the events before the Alarm is turned on, while the post Alarm takes care of the events after the Alarm has stopped. A GB hard disk system can carry a full day’s color video sequence from four cameras. The recorded events can be selected by date and time.
The N2k is completely network able. The built-in web and http servers make the activation of real time video monitoring/recording/configuration or PTZ cam control of a facility from any internet connected computer using a password protected web interface possible. The user can setup all levels of password and access within the network or use the two-levels, multiple user, N2k password protection.
INSTALLATION: the N2k PCI card can be installed as follows;
1. Fix one or more N2k PCI card to the PCI slots in the PC
2. Use the NOVEX installation CD to install the software.
3. Connect one to sixteen cameras (four cameras per N2k PCI card) optionally sixteen Alarm switches.
This is the complete procedure of installing the N2k PCI. It is money saving and does not alter your security.
PART FOUR
CONCLUSSION
In view of the explanation in section three above and a tested and proven facts about this work, it is established that a PC-based digital surveillance system provides a reliable internet-enabled video viewing/digital archiving solution. It can replace costly and problem-plagued video-tape based CCTV system that dose not deliver when needed. With PC-based digital surveillance system, recorded videos are secured and stored remotely and made available when needed. One of the features of the remote surveillance system is the motion detection; it senses and sends an e-alert to the user’s cell phone, pager or e-mail address.
This article provides solution to the problem associated with the video-tape based CCTV surveillance system. This easy-to-use solution channels digital, our safety store recorded video without loss or image degradation. And to view either live or recorded video from anywhere, any time, via internet.
This paper has demonstrated how a real time CCTV monitoring package, N2K can be configured to interact with personal computers and control digital Remote Surveillance System automatically based on motion direction. It is also shown that the user would also be able to view live CCTV image over a local network or the internet via the built in web server.

ABSTRACT
This Article presents how a remote surveillance system (RSS) can be made from a personal computer (PC). The RSS is made to work as Digital video Recorder/Player, Digital time lapse recorder, alarm monitor, and video motion detector. The article further reveals how money is saved on cctv equipment by mere use of real time cctv monitoring package.
SECTION ONE
INTRODUCTION
All organization has valuable assets and properties, these assets and properties among other things may include; Human, buildings, weapons, materials, documents, equipment, machines, products, money, food, drinks and so on.
The assets are classified into three namely
(1.) TANGIBLE,
(2.) INTANGIBLE,
(3.) CURRENT
TANGIBLE ASSETS:- These are assets or physical properties that are visible as one goes round the premises of the organization. It is farther classified into three groups namely; 1. Land and Buildings,
2. Plants and machineries, furniture, equipment, fixtures, fittings, motor vehicle, trucks ships, aircrafts e.t.c.
3. Stocks, work in progress, raw materials and finished goods.
INTANGEBLE ASSETS:- These are goodwill, cash an hand and cash in the Bank.
CURRENT ASSETS:-These are assets that are constantly consumed, sold and renewed. They fall into the last category of the tangible assets. They are prone to attacks by both internal and external unauthorized persons.
For organizations to maintain and secure there assets from attacks internally and externally, there is the need to put in place a system that will dictate, report and if possible arrest intruders from vandalizing/steeling the asset of the organization. The entire system that will carryout these work is known as electronic security system.
Every electronic security system composes of alarms and alarm monitoring, access control system, CCTV system and intercom system as its major components.
Nowadays, most organizations purses computer systems and also have there networks. These facilities can be enhanced to function for local and remote video monitoring. In this vain, let journey to the would of making a remote surveillance system from a personal computer system.
Part two of this article explains a typical video tape-based cctv system including its components and some components which might not be required in this work but used in other fields. Part three deals with the subject matter (making a remote surveillance system from a personal computer system). It also presents the installation of a typical real time CCTV monitoring package. Part four is some discussions and conclusion.
